Dragonlance chronicles audio books4/3/2024 ![]() Just know that it isn’t perfect and enjoy the story. ![]() Don’t let the narration comments stop you. Lifelong friends, they went their separate ways. If you like stories with dragons, dwarves, elves, magic, and wizards, along with a little humor you should give this a try. Dragons of Autumn Twilight: Dragonlance: Chronicles, Book 1. With Books 1-3 so-so, Book 4 strangely overlong for its significance and a short but vital Book 5 to end, this is not just more franchise fodder to be avoided it is vital for any Dragonlance fan and adds detail that will make Chronicles and Legends make more sense. I think the books only get better as you read through the series. Therefore this IS Dragonlance history, despite whatever else has ever been written. But I find those by Weis and Hickman to be well written, in a fairly intricate world that is interesting, often suspenseful, surprising, and sometimes even funny. ![]() It has always seemed to me that Dragonlance books had a reputation as second rate fantasy, and somewhat juvenile. Still, the vast majority of the book was just fine and what wasn’t perfect didn’t detract from the story, in my opinion. You could argue that it could have been better. It did not prevent me from enjoying the story. The Dragonlance books are set within the sprawling shared universe of the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. It is a little inconsistent, the pace isn’t always appropriate, and there are times when the word emphasized seems completely out of place. Granted, I understand why some people have been critical of the narration. Years later I did get a copy, just to give it a try for myself. They speak of a world shadowed with rumors of war. Now they are together again, though each holds secrets from the others in his heart. I didn’t get a copy because of these reviews. Lifelong friends, they went their separate ways. As a book that I read many years ago and enjoyed it was one of the first I ever looked for on Audible. The War of the Lance has begun in earnest, and the Companions-Tanis, Flint, the twins Raistlin and Sturm, Flint Fireforge, Goldmoon, et al. The second volume in Dragonlances seminal trilogy stokes the action with a big ol blast of dragon breath. I mostly write this review because I have seen a lot of comments that really criticize the narration. Dragons of Autumn Twilight sets em up, and Dragons of Winter Night knocks em down. Arrgh! I love these books but cringe every other minute as I listen to Boehmer's precise recitation of each consonant in every word! I long for a performance of the Chronicles by Steven Pacey or Roy Dotrice, even the original reading by Peter MacNichol was better. ![]() He punches every word in a sentence as if he went to the William Shatner School for the Dramatic Arts. scenes of relaxed conversation are performed with the same level of emotion as scenes of combat and suspense). His pacing is awkward and does not match the action or pace the story demands (i.e. Many are so similar as to confuse the listener about which character is speaking. His voice characterizations are weak and often don't fit the character as described in the text. Boehmer gives us a lesson in diction and pronunciation rather than a dramatic performance. I purchased the Dragonlance Chronicles out of love for the story and in hopes that Boehmer had gotten better. Only works of fiction are considered part of the series a book or a documentary film about the franchise is not itself an installment in the franchise.Why is Paul Boehmer getting work narrating fantasy? I suffered through his inept performance of Brent Weeks' Way of Shadows Trilogy.
